    Mik Mikulich
    Position: Owner and Principal Engineer

    Clement “Mik” Mikulich has been a Project Manager, Mechanical Engineer, Fire Protection Engineer, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and a Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) with Adams and Associates Engineers since 1999 and Principal of Adams and Associates Engineers since 2011.  Mik leads the commissioning effort and specializes in building energy modeling, building energy audits, LEED documentation and fire protection engineering.  Mik is also project manager on design and construction projects involving close ownership and contracting partners.

    Mik approaches each project with enthusiasm and dedication.  He balances that with his expansive technical knowledge and expertise to enhance client satisfaction.  He has worked with various government entities and has been responsible for large, small and diverse projects ranging from Municipal Facilities, Aviation, Commercial, Industrial, Educational Facilities, Resorts and Healthcare.  Mik is a registered fire protection engineer in Arizona and can support any project that involves specialized fire protection engineering or design.  Mik’s CEM certification provides credibility to support his expertise in developing building energy models, energy audits and documenting LEED credits.  In 2018 Mik opened the second Adams office located in Phoenix, Arizona. When not in the office, Mik enjoys time with his family, playing a round of golf, and being outdoors.

    Dave Tyrrell
    Position: Owner and Principal Engineer

    David Tyrrell has been a Project Manager, Mechanical Engineer and Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) with Adams and Associates since 2002 and Principal of Adams and Associates Engineers, PLLC since 2011.  Dave leads the majority of the design and construction projects for Adams and Associates Engineers and supports Mik in the commissioning process for building systems.  Dave specializes in small to large mechanical prime design and construction administration projects working directly with building ownership and contracting partners.

    Dave takes on new challenges with intensity and vigor.  His expertise and design experience encompasses many industries and includes projects from all over the southwest; he is registered as a mechanical engineer in Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, and Texas.  He specializes in large scale, complex projects utilizing his skills in mechanical engineering with commissioning experience to add value to the project team.  Dave has experience with HVAC systems, EMCS controls systems, plumbing systems, domestic water heating systems, solar water heating and fire protection systems.  Dave is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids.

    Alec Zimmermann
    Position: Senior Electrical Engineer

    Alec is a senior electrical engineer with over six years of experience in the consulting engineering industry. He has extensive design experience in healthcare facilities, medical office buildings, commercial offices, and laboratory facilities. Alec is typically involved in all phases of a project from conception at schematic design to final sign-off and owner turn over. He is a well-organized team member that works closely with clients to provide the best product for the overall project with his technical expertise. Alec enjoys leveraging his past experience with the lean project delivery ideologies on new projects no matter the size or complexity. He utilizes his electrical knowledge and expertise to ensure that the client’s design requests will meet all required electrical and energy codes. Outside of work, Alec enjoys spending time with his wife and family enjoying activities like hiking, biking, camping, and fishing. He is an avid sports lover and fantasy sport manager during downtime and weekends.

    Brian Averman
    Position: Commissioning Provider

    Brian has been working in the HVAC industry for over 18 years and has joined Adams as a Commissioning Provider to lead our commissioning projects. He will provide an unbiased perspective of the building systems’ installation and operation. Brian has a great understanding of mechanical systems, testing and balancing, energy management and control systems, and quality control. He brings his experience to Adams to strengthen our commissioning program. As a Commissioning Provider, Brian uses his skills to verify that the building’s systems all operate as intended. Communication and integrity are extremely important to Brian which make him a great asset to the team. While not working Brian enjoys spending quality time with his wife and children.

    Penny Gloff
    Position: Senior Mechanical Designer

    Penny started her career with Adams in 1987 hand drafting redlines from Stan Adams. Penny’s “can do” attitude showed commitment, devotion and dedication for 30 years to Adams and Associates and she now leads all mechanical designs. She adds value to the team by keeping the client in mind the entire time she is designing mechanical systems.

    Ryan Harbuck
    Position: Mechanical Designer II

    Ryan was hired to assist the team with HVAC load calculations, energy modeling, HVAC/plumbing drafting and development of system verification checklists for commissioning projects.  Ryan graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in May of 2017, majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  He will continue to learn the mechanical engineering industry and develop professionally during his time at Adams.  Ryan is currently volunteering on the ASHRAE Tucson Chapter Board as the Young Engineers of ASHRAE (YEA) Chair and treasurer. Scuba diving is his hobby and he is an avid traveler.  He also enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and backpacking with his dog.

    Alan E. Smedley, Jr.
    Position: Plumbing Designer and Building Information Modeling (BIM) Coordinator

    Alan brings a wide variety of experience to the Adams Team.  As an Honorably Discharged U.S. Marine Veteran, with years of experience as an aircraft engine mechanic, flight line coordinator, a plumber, a plumbing designer and with over 15 years of experience using AutoCAD/Revit. Alan is cross-trained to support both mechanical and plumbing designs in AutoCAD or Revit and leads all 3D modeling within our office.  Alan is the Adjunct Instructor at Pima Community College for CAD 266 – Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing Drafting and Design: Revit MEP course where he teaches 3D modeling of commercial mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.  On a personal side, Alan enjoy spending time outdoors – hunting, fishing, tracking, hiking or just reading a good book.

    Michael Wilson
    Position: Mechanical Designer I

    Michael graduated from Northern Arizona University where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. He brings skills from relevant coursework into the professional world where he continues to learn mechanical engineering skills and develop professionally. Michael excels in HVAC and plumbing design, load calculations, and energy modeling. He is sharpening his AutoCAD and Revit skills as he becomes familiar with industry standards. Michael was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for several years and earned an Eagle Scout award for community service of a design and construction project. He plans to take the FE exam and will continue to learn engineering principles. He enjoys spending time with his girlfriend exploring their new hometown of Phoenix, Arizona.

    Neeraj Sarnaik
    Position: Electrical Designer I

    Neeraj moved from Washington to Tucson to join the Adams Electrical Department. He has experience with the MEP industry after graduating from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California. During his time at school, he volunteered with Engineers Without Borders and Grid Alternatives. The volunteer work included a trip to Santa Maria, California to install solar panels for low income families. His main passions are solar energy, MEP work, and electrical design for both digital and analog circuits. With Adams, he will create detailed drawings that include power design, lighting design, and special systems design, electrical utility coordination, dual power source design, and arc flash/coordination studies. His career goal is to become a PE. He enjoys playing basketball, tennis, and ping pong; watching movies; and cooking while learning different cuisines.

    Christine Martinez
    Position: Bookkeeper

    Christine has 25 years of experience in bookkeeping and administration duties. She is always willing to assist our clients. She helps the design team keep projects on track by processing monthly invoices and handles all bookkeeping tasks. She loves to cook and is the “chef” for HUGS – a senior program at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.  In her spare time she enjoys cooking, hiking, travel, going to concerts, and spending time with family and friends.

    Position: Design Team Coordinator

    Jen has nearly 25 years of experience in marketing and administration duties. She helps the design team keep projects and proposals running smoothly, works on marketing efforts, and assists our clients as needed. Her experience in marketing, client relations and project management enables her to attain goals from developing initial plans, to timely delivery of the final project. She enjoys photography and graphic design as a hobby.
